• Reflecting on 2015: What I learned this year

I have come to accept that my memory is not great. Looking back on the year that was leaves me with general impressions, swaths of emotions over time periods and only a few distinct memories. I indulged in a couple of hours of reflecting on 2015 and looking ahead to 2016 using Amanda Viviers questions, a highly worthwhile exercise-especially if you are a writer or creative in any way. I was left with impressions of these being my take away lessons from this year: Deep community can develop in only a year– I find it hard to fathom that some of my closest friends today were really only acquaintances at this time…

  • Planning for Advent: including a free printable!

How fast is this year going?! Advent is almost upon us. I loved being intentional with planning Advent activities to do with my daughter last year. I did go quite overboard though trying to include several different ideas all into one season. This year, I plan to pare back a bit and be more focused. I don’t want Advent to become a stressed, rushed time as that defeats the purpose of meditating on and preparing our hearts for the real message of Christmas.    To help me prepare for Advent so that I can reduce the stress during December, I created an Advent planner for myself. Before putting up more…

  • What I learned in October

October has been a huge month! Here are a few things that I’ve learned this month: I CAN write and be consistent and organised on my blog. I actually completed the Write 31 Days challenge this year and am still posting this so it obviously didn’t burn me out!! Click on the button below to go to that series. The reality of a vision in your mind may not quite be the same but it can still be beautiful. The MOPS State Conference decor that took so long to create really came together well. (You can see some pictures in this post) I have amazing friends and family who encourage…

  • My Ongoing Journey

It seems unbelievable that this is the last post in this year’s Write 31 Days challenge. I did it! I actually wrote a post for each day of October. Reflecting on My Journey of Increasing Capacity has been emotional, uplifting and even surprising at times. The words have flowed in a way that they haven’t in the past. A recurring phrase in many of my posts has been “a work in progress”. My journey is far from complete (is it ever really done as long as we are alive?!). It is ongoing. So what now? For the first time I have been consistent in writing and posting and am loving it.…

  • Yes: Five Minute Friday

I have such a love-hate relationship with the word “yes”. Maybe that’s a bit strong but for the people-pleaser in me it is a tricky one to navigate. I will say that I have come a long way in overcoming these tendencies and have grown more confident in my use of “no” when needed but it is a battle each time. My brain goes into overdrive trying to figure out how to work things out so that a “yes” is possible, even for things I know I’m not really interested in. Lysa TerKeurst’s book “The Best Yes” is a brilliant one for anyone else struggling with this. I need to…

  • What I learned (or relearned) in August

It feels like only a week or two ago that I was writing my July post! It took me a long time to get my thoughts together to even realise what I have learned or relearned this month. I guess that’s a good indication of how full my mind and days have been. So here is my list of the fun, frivolous, serious and deep. I love tulips-we took a family day to the Araluen Botanical Park for the start of the tulip season there. It was a stunning winter’s day and a great day out. A funeral can be both gut-wrenching and faith building- I wrote about a recent…

  • What I Learned in July

How can so much life have happened in only one month? I may not be able to express all that is in my heart from this month just yet but these are a few of the things I have learned or re-learned this month. Turning 30 is awesome! I joke that I’ve felt so much older for so long that the numbers are just starting to catch up. Not far from the truth some days! Seriously though, I feel so much more grounded and settled in myself in general, both through maturity with age and through hard healing work with God. It feels like the start of a new decade full of…
